<\/div>\nNotorious Instagram account\u00a0ufo_scandinavia\u00a0uploaded strange footage last week showing the bizarre anomaly.<\/p>\n
It shows a man zooming in and out of a satellite snap on Google Earth.<\/p>\n
The snow in view appears to have the shape of eyes, a nose and a mouth. The mouth appears to be contorted in a terrifying grimace.<\/p>\n
The strange image sparked a frenzy online, with some claiming it\u2019s evidence of a hidden civilisation.<\/p>\n Bonkers conspiracy theorists have long claimed that an ancient civilisation \u2013 possibly of alien origin \u2013 lived or still lives under the Antarctic ice.<\/p>\n Conspiracy theorists Blake and Brett Cousins \u2013 of YouTube channel\u00a0thirdphaseofmoon\u00a0\u2013 shared their thoughts on the Google Earth image.<\/p>\n \u201cIt appears to be a m\u1d00ssive, ancient structure of some kind of face that is being revealed for the first time on Google Earth,\u201d Blake said in his video.<\/p>\n \u201cI would have to concur that whatever we\u2019re looking at resembles some sort of megastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n Brett added: \u201cCould this be something that was left behind by the ancient civilisations of Antarctica?<\/p>\n \u201cIce melting could be revealing structures that would baffle the world.\u201d<\/p>\n Around 90,000 people have watched the original Instagram footage of the Antarctic face.<\/p>\n One user quipped: \u201cThat is not a natural thing that mother nature made by wind and cold. Looks like a Viking. Metal helmet with the nose piece running down the upper part.\u201d<\/p>\n Another said: \u201cNo mind trick, that\u2019s definitely a face.\u201d<\/p>\n Others were more sensible in their approach. One explained: \u201cThis is purely natural and random. Looks like ice with cracks.\u201d<\/p>\n The find is most likely the result of pareidolia, a bizarre effect which causes the brain to see shapes, structures and patterns where they do not exist.<\/p>\n According to Nasa: \u201cPareidolia is the psychological phenomenon where people see recognisable shapes in clouds, rock formations, or otherwise unrelated objects or data.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are many examples of this phenomenon on Earth and in space.\u201d<\/p>\n This is not the first time conspiracy nutters have made outrageous claims about satelite snaps.<\/p>\n Back in April, one prominent UFO-hunter\u00a0claimed to have found\u00a0an alien sculpture of a \u0274u\u1d05\u1d07 woman on a distant asteroid.<\/p>\n In March, he\u00a0said he\u2019d found\u00a0a carving of the Ancient Greek philosopher Socrates on a mound on Mars<\/p>\n In other space news, Nasa\u2019s manned mission to Mars\u00a0could be delayed by 25 years\u00a0as experts warn of radiation, health scares and food shortages.<\/p>\n Japan is ready to mine Mars\u2019s largest moon after successfully completing all of the compulsory space contamination paperwork.<\/p>\n Nasa managed to record the incredible sound of a \u2018Marsquake\u2019 \u2013\u00a0which you can listen to here.<\/p>\n What do you think of the bonkers UFO claims?
